BAWSI Girls Rock!
Week #7

"LEADER"
Definition: "To be a guide for others, to help show the way"
Questions to think about:
- Who do you know that is a leader?
- What do leaders do? How do you act like a good leader?
- What are some examples of a "bad" leader?
Stanford University Women's Lacrosse and Softball Teams
Athletes from Stanford's Women's Lacrosse and Softball Teams are coaching the BAWSI Girls team at Castro Elementary in Mountain View this fall. Stanford's lacrosse team traveled to Oregon last month to participate in the Stars and Stripes Tournament. They played against the U.S. Elite and Developmental teams in exhibition games, and also against collegiate teams from Cal-Berkeley and Oregon. This is the first time in over 30 years that the US Team has competed or trained on the West Coast. This is a strong sign that the west coast is becoming a destination for the lacrosse community. Cardinal goalkeeper Laura Shane (pictured) is a member of the U.S. Development team. For more information, please visit the team's website.
The 2008 Stanford softball team played three exhibition contests at home last week. The first game was Thursday against San Jose State, and on Sunday, Nov. 4, Stanford played a double-header against Santa Clara and Chico State. Returning to the team are 11 players from last season's team that went 35-21-1 and advanced to the NCAA Regional Final. Included in the returnees are 2007 All-American Alissa Haber, 2005 All-American Michelle Smith and two-time All-Pac-10 picks Missy Penna and Maddy Coon. Head Coach John Rittman, who begins his 12th season at Stanford, has also added five promising newcomers, infielder Melisa Koutz (Valencia, Calif.), catcher Brittany Minder (Moreno Valley, Calif.), pitcher Ashley Chinn (Belmont, Calif.), infielder Erikka Moreno (Villa Park, Calif.) and outfielder Autumn Albers (Danville, Calif.).
